Ilkley and Burley take a step to support the Fairtrade cause

Fairtrade supporters in Ilkley and Burley-in-Wharfedale will Take a Step for the cause by joining a walking route around the Bradford District.

The theme of Fairtrade Fortnight, which starts on Monday, February 27, is Take a Step, encouraging consumers to take a simple step towards a fairer trading system around the world.

Fairtrade groups across the Bradford district have interpreted the theme literally, and are creating a Fair Trade Way linking communities signed up to the cause.

A series of nine walks around the new route, calling at Burley and Ilkley, will take place in March and April.

Ilkley Fairtrade Group is also urging people to take a step for Fairtrade, by swapping one of their regular groceries for its fairly-traded equivalent, and will have a display at Ilkley Library.

Ilkley Grammar School is organising a treasure hunt during the fortnight and is holding a Fairtrade fashion show and information night on Thursday, March 8, at 7pm.

The Fair Trade Way walk will go from Burley to Ilkley on April 14, and there will be a walks from Ilkley to Keighley and Haworth on April 21. For details, visit bradford.gov.uk/ fairtrade.
