Ilkley pancake race will be flipping good fun

Managers at a centre for the overs-50s say they are hoping to roll back the years by entering a team for a pancake race.

The Clarke Foley Centre in Cunliffe Road, Ilkley, has been creating a team to take part in the second Rotary Club of Ilkley race along The Grove on Shrove Tuesday.

After the race the team will return to the centre for pancakes made by coffee bar manager Marilyn Osinski.

The centre’s new general manager, Judith Ellis, says entering a team for the event will show people life goes on after 50.

“We’re looking forward to the pancake race and showing everyone that activity and fun doesn’t stop when you reach 50,” she said. “Pancakes back at the centre will be a tasty reward for our efforts.

“We hope others over 50 will join us to sample Marilyn’s cooking.”

The Clarke Foley Centre coffee bar serves light refreshments and managers are planning to introduce more homemade items to the menu over the next few months.

The centre also runs lots of activities for people over 50, such as yoga, keep fit, art classes, bowling and computer classes.

There are a number of rooms available to hire at the centre, which can be used by the public of any age group.
